How Do You Know It’s The Right Time To Hire A Business Coach?

Throughout the day I receive a lot of emails from creative entrepreneurs with questions about growing a business or even if my services would be a good fit for them. But one email really stood out to me recently. The young lady expressed her frustration with trying to grow her business on her own. She mentioned that she had taken courses in the past but felt like she still needed more help. The problem was she wasn’t exactly sure what a business coach was and most importantly if her and her business were in the right position to really benefit from hiring one. This email stood out to me because over the past few years I have been blessed with the ability to work one-on-one with dozens of creative entrepreneurs through my business coaching services and till this day the number one question I often receive before someone decides to book me is “How do I know it’s the right time for me to hire a coach?”. While the question may sound simple, I’m asked it more times than none.

A business coach is there to make sure you develop the skills and strategies you need in order begin seeing real growth in your business and to reach your desired level of success. While there isn’t just one moment that you can pin-point that alerts you that it’s time to seek help, there are a few signs that can help you make the decision.

  1. You’re overwhelmed. Building a brand from scratch, especially if you’re doing this alone can be overwhelming. From making all the decisions yourself to deciding what needs to be done next and what takes priority. If you’re overwhelmed to the point where you’re stressing and over thinking more than working, then it’s time to reach out for additional help.

  2. You’re frustrated with not seeing the results you desire. If everything you’ve tried doesn’t seem to be yielding any positive results then it’s time for you to get some help from someone who can pin-point exactly what you’re doing wrong. The last thing you want to do is spend years trying the same strategies over and over again just to continue getting the same results.

  3. You’ve hit a cap on what you can reach. This happens to the best of us and is one of the reasons why I have invested in different coaching programs in the past. We get to a point in our business that even though we’re receiving positive results, we become stagnant or hit a cap in our growth. Whether that be a cap in income where you can never go beyond making a certain amount or a cap in audience growth. Hiring a coach can help present new strategies that you can implement to simply shake things up in your business and help you to reach the next level.

  4. You feel lost because you’re not sure what to focus on & you need clarity. Getting clear on your brands focus is the most important piece to building an online business. Without building that solid foundation first you run the risk of looking unprofessional, all over the place and spending time on tasks that won’t ever matter. Many creatives will hire a coach in the beginning to make sure they are starting off with a clear direction and some will hire a coach once they feel like they are ready to take their brand in a different direction.

  5. You’re tired of being your only source of motivation & you need accountability. Running a business isn’t like going to your 9-5 where you have a boss constantly reminding you of what you need to do and setting deadlines for certain tasks. If you feel like you know what needs to be done yet nothing ever gets crossed off of your to-do list then hiring a coach will provide you with the accountability you need. A coach will help break up your tasks so that they are more manageable and check in with you to make sure things are actually getting done.

Now that you know it’s time to hire a coach, what are some of the benefits of making the investment?

  • I’ve said this a million times before but there is something that you can’t get from watching a webinar or even taking a course. And you definitely can’t get it from stalking Google for hours. And that is actionable advice that is tailored to your businesses specific needs. Advice and strategies that are geared towards your biggest pain points and that will help you reach YOUR desired level of success and not someone else’s.

  • Hiring a coach also gives you clarity and peace of mind. The last thing you want to do is build and entire business based off of a temporary interest. Hiring a coach helps you to iron out a lot of the small details early on in your business so that you can put more focus into how your business will generate money. (because if it don’t make money, it don’t make sense)

  • Hiring a coach can also help you save time & money. Yes I know you’re probably thinking “But hiring a coach is an investment!” but think of all of the money you could be wasting on different marketing strategies or tools for your business that you don’t actually need. Hiring a coach will help you to avoid that! Also the hours you spend searching google for the answers can be easily handed to you by a coach and you can in return use that time to work on your business. Not to mention you will be avoiding a lot of the major mistakes that creatives make and you’ll know exactly what resources you absolutely need to invest in in order to further grow your business.

Here are some of the results my clients have had with working with me as their business coach:

“Working with Alisha was the best decision that I made for my brand. She helped me clarify my target audience and establish my mission, create a plan of action which simplified my planning for 2017. With her help, I am no longer overwhelmed or anxious over creating good content that my audience can both identify with and benefit from. She helped me establish a brand that authentically represents me. She is a clarity coach indeed!” – LaToya of

“Without Alisha, I definitely would still feel like a caged hamster—spinning my wheels, but going nowhere! As a newbie, it really helped having Alisha to walk me through the best way to set up my coaching package and market my products and services. I will forever be grateful for the clarity I now have. Thank you!” – JaQuette of

Hiring a coach can literally be a lifesaver when it comes to growing your brand especially when you’re looking to take your brand full-time. But I should also mention that a business coach is not a miracle worker. And while they can provide you with the tips and strategies you need, none of it will matter if you don’t put the work in behind it.
