Yesterday I celebrated my 27th birthday. Yes, I am officially close enough to 30 that I can reach out and touch it! While I had to catch myself from having one of those “I haven’t accomplished nearly enough in 27 years” moments, instead I took a second to reflect on how far I have come and all that I have learned.
This past year has been a roller coaster ride. From feeling all over the place, to deciding to close one business to fully focus on my purpose, to accomplishing some pretty big personal goals, I have grown so much from the 20 year old me and even the person I was just a couple of years ago when I first took the leap into entrepreneurship.
Today I wanted to share three of the biggest things that I have learned over the years. Of course these can all be applied to where you are in your business but also to wherever you may be in your life as well!
1. STOP ALLOWING FEAR TO PUT A HOLD ON YOUR PURPOSE
Twenty-two year old me dreamed of one day starting my own business. I remember going to Barnes and Noble and buying my very first business book with the intent on that being my starting point. The deeper I got into the book, the more overwhelmed I became and the more I let fear get the best of me. Needless to say, my first business never happened (and neither did that book). I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and maybe I wasn’t supposed to get started then but I’m also a believer in how much fear can cripple you.
Fear is just an emotion. It can’t physically hurt you but it will stop you from fully living out your purpose. The last thing you want to do is to grow old and regret not doing all of the things you said you wanted to do because of fear. Stop putting things off for “tomorrow” and begin working towards your dreams. Even if you accomplish one small task a day it’s a lot better than not doing anything!
2. YOU HAVE TO GO AFTER IT
Opportunities are not just going to fall in your lap. Whether you are wanting to book new clients or even be promoted to a new position at your job, you have to go out and work for it! One of the biggest mistakes that I have made was sitting around just waiting for something good to happen to me. I pouted for a long time trying to figure out why I wasn’t receiving some of the opportunities others were getting and it was simply because they were going out to get it and I wasn’t. There is room out here for all of us to be great but with that being said, we all have to eat. You can’t expect for someone to neglect what they have going on just to pave the way for you all of the time.

3. DON’T ALLOW SOMEONE ELSE TO CREATE A VISION FOR YOUR LIFE
Considering the statistics of where I am from, technically I wasn’t supposed to be anything but end up apart of the system. I made the decision at an early age that I wasn’t going to allow someone to create my story. No matter if you are wanting to take the leap into entrepreneurship or back pack across country, you are in control of what you want for your life and no one but God and yourself can change that! Sometimes you have to silence the noise around you or even cut a few people off in order to really go after your dream with tunnel vision. Write your own vision and don’t allow anyone else to add in what they THINK you should be doing with it!

I was told that 27 is the year of “becoming” and I can not wait to see what amazing things this year has in store for me! I’d love to know…
