Conference in Banff, Alberta | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

Let me start by saying I love photography conferences.  It give us photographers a chance to meet, mingle, talk shop and socialize with other people who love the camera as much as we do.  It is a special time that has enabled me to create a peer group and make friends with so many awesome people across the country.  And since I am an Atlanta native (I know… there is not many of us here) it has been great to be able to have this opportunity.  One of my online forums has a conference every year and last year it was held in Phoenix, AZ.  Boy was it was awesome.  I learned so much from the many talented people that were there and got to hang with some of my best Internet buddies.  Truly a memorable event for me.  Well about this time last year they started planning another one.  It was to be held in Canada (my husband’s motherland.:)) and I was so excited to hear about the planning of it. Soon after the planning started I was asked to be a speaker.  They wanted to add newborn photography to the agenda this year and wanted me to talk about it.  I was beyond honored.  As many of you know newborns are truly one of my favorite subjects and to get to talk about and shoot a few newborn models with 35 of my peers was definitely an exciting thought.  I of course said yes and this past June I packed up and headed to Banff, Alberta.  It was an amazing time.  Many great photographers were there speaking and many of my good friends were also there.  I was so excited to be teamed up with another amazingly talented newborn photographer, Danna Bowes for my day.  She is based in Calgary and she worked so hard for us to have 2 models and a set of 7 day old twins. What a treat!!!  While the setting was somewhat different from what I normally do here in my studio it was still so much fun and we got some great shots.  I also got to talk through a session with the other photographers sharing my workflow.  Danna and I each had our own model and then in the afternoon we had a session together with the twins.  And now I know how much easier it is with two sets of experienced hands.  I had such a fun time working alongside Danna.  We worked as if we had being doing it all our lives. :)   Then after the session I demonstrated how a session might go with an older baby and Danna had a maternity session.  All in all it was a lot of work but so much fun. I hope I get this opportunity again in the future for sure!  SO I thought I would share the sweet Canadian babies that I got to meet.

And after our amazing conference my family met me in Banff where we embarked on an amazing adventure through the Canadian Rockies.  It was one of the best trips of my life.  We had so much fun!!!  More on that in a later post.
