What a way to start the new year. This sweet baby was born before Christmas and was I believe 4 weeks old when I saw him. But… he was born 7 weeks early so he was still as sleepy as a 10 day old. He was just perfect. He had no extended hospital stay or NICU experience. What a little fighter he is. He was just perfect for his session. And so unbelievably cute.

It is that time again… we are hustling around getting everything ready for the big man in red’s arrival. It is always a busy day but today I took the morning to sit in my PJ’s. Watch the kids play and watch a little tv while doing well… nothing. It was much needed in preparation for the rest of the day. As I type this there are three overly excited children getting their showers taken care of. All year they look forward to this day. The excitement builds for them daily. They can’t wait to go to sleep yet they are so excited they can’t go to sleep. As a child it is the end all, be all of amazing days. I remember it so well. I remember lying in bed hoping that the night would go super fast so I could see my loot. I remember my parents stumbling down the stairs after we drug them out of bed at an insanely early hour. I remember their faces as they watched us inspect each gift. I mean let’s face it Christmas morning ranks right up there with every child’s most anticipated day. And while all year Scott and I work at instilling in our children how blessed they are so that they appreciate everything they have. A nice house, food on the table, good educations, two parents that love them, siblings and most any toy they want to me this day is about them. It’s about the magic of not knowing what will be left under the tree for them. It’s about going to the end of town or to every store on the Internet to find their most obscure requests. As a parent it is almost as fun to watch them at that same insane hour on Christmas morning as they burst with joy over what Santa has brought them. I feel lucky to have three that still believe in the magic, still act giddy with anticipation over what is going to be left for them. Three kids ages 10, 8 and 5 that will try and go to sleep as fast as possible and will run down the stairs wide awake at 7 am to see what awaits them. Then once the toys have been gone through and carefully inspected we will gather everyone up and load the van up to go and visit our families. We are lucky that everyone lives very close so we split our afternoon and evening with both sides of the family. That is our Christmas in a nutshell. Whatever your traditions are I hope that your day is full of magic and love. Being thankful for all that you have and all you are blessed with. Merry Christmas to you all!

Below are some photos I took for our card this year. Every year we all dress up and do a big family session. This year I did them myself. Next year… I will hire someone. I am thrilled with how the individual ones turned out though. They are already gracing my walls as a large display in our house.

This one of the three of them is a new favorite. I love Garrett’s big open mouth laugh and the girls
giggling. Love love it!

We just adore this little guy.

Just getting back into the swing of things and starting to catch up. I thought I would pop in and share some of personal goings on. I have lots of clients to share but I realized that I have not shared anything about our new house. First let me start with WOW it is is true… location is EVERYTHING! I had no idea how much moving closer to schools, shopping, friends, all of it would change our lives. Of course I realized that spending 40 less minutes in the car a day would be huge but it goes way beyond that. I can do just about everything I need to do within 5 miles of my house. I just love that. It opens up so much for us. Friends are closer, activities are closer and we spend WAY less time in the car. I knew I loved Roswell. It has always felt like home and while I miss my neighbors in my old neighborhood the trade off is a better lifestyle for us. And besides I know they are not far away. Our new neighborhood is awesome too. The kids have friends here and they are constantly outside playing. Many days we have a revolving door of friends and family and that makes me so happy. Now on to the house… I won’t lie. Leaving my home was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I loved that house… LOVED it! We had been there 10 years and when we moved in we were newly married and had no kids. It was the home I became mother in. It is where I brought all three of my babies home. It holds lots of amazing memories. Selling it was hard and complicated by an exhausting selling process. But once we moved and got settled into our new house I breath easy knowing that I can love more than one house. Everyday I am thankful for what we have. I love our home and while it lives differently then our old one it seems perfect. And really there is nothing like a new house. A blank canvas to start over in, the new house smell, the fact that everything is updated and matches (I still had light fixtures I needed to replace after 10 years in the other house). So bottom line is we are thrilled with our decision and thrilled to live in Roswell!!! I thought I would do a series of the rooms in the house. There is still quite a few that are a work in progress but we are getting there. Slowly but surely.

I’m crossing my fingers that these look ok. I proofed them at home on my laptop and this monitor is not the best. So they may look a bit dark.

This is our breakfast room. I love it. One door goes to the screened in porch and the other to the grilling deck. It is basically the same shape as our old one but a bit bigger.

Little Miss Lydia is modeling.

The shelves we just added and they are awesome!!! I use them to display things and to hold art supplies. My girls are avid artists who love to draw pictures.
I had an ugly old cabinet to hold art supplies before but this is much better!!!

The baskets hold beads, paints, workbooks, extra crayons, tape, glue, ect.

This was one of my favorite ideas. It makes it easy for them to grab pens, crayons and markers. It makes me happy.

I love these banana leaf boxes from Crate and Barrel

Here is our workbooks and paint.

This cool little pot had a flower in it and was a housewarming gift. I made a scissor home.

and a shot of our beads. Below in the clear boxes is plain white paper. Their canvas of choice.

And one of my favorite parts of the keeping room. A couple of special 16×20 canvases of my kids.
The shot of the girls ranks up there with an all time fave.
Just outside here is the screened in porch which we love. We have new furniture on the way so I’ll blog that later.

And just off the kitchen/breakfast room is our keeping room. This is a new room for us. We didn’t have one before and boy do we love it.
The bookshelves hold a lot of our special things and we decided to decorate with fun colorful furniture. We had the chair and went from there.
To give you an idea I am actually standing on my island to take this shot. That plant is sitting by my sink. I’ll show the kitchen in another post.
When it is clean.

And one more shot so you can see the whole shelf. And to the side is our friends entrance. LOVE that.

My love for the I family goes deep. I have watched these children grow for the past 5 years and I just love spending time with them. And to top it off mom is one of my good friends now and Ella my oldest daughter and Miss A (the oldest here) are best of buddies. Even though they don’t see each other as much as we would like them to they always pick up just where they left off. I love that. This session the littlest finally decided I was ok. She let me in to her world and even held my hand. Love her. Love all you guys.

So most of you clients out there have at one time or another met Beth. She is my right hand man lady these days. She keeps me organized here at AGR Photography and has made transitioning into a new studio so much easier. Well this post is perfect timing because on Sunday she is tying the knot with her new man! Beth and Paul had a whirl wind romance and have decided set a date of December 12th to become a new family. I am so happy to watch her glow with happiness. It has been a long time since I saw her like this. I wish you guys nothing but happiness and a lifetime of wonderful memories. And if you guys were wondering I am photographing the wedding. Yes I know… I don’t do weddings but how could I say no to Beth. I am excited, nervous and honored to be a part of their day. Here are some faves from their engagement session we had back in November.

Sorry I have been so absent from the blog. I took a couple of weeks off and we took an awesome vacation to Disney-world right before Thanksgiving. Now if you know me in real life you know that Disney world was not one of those places that I was thrilled to be going. Really just not my scene. But…. this time I planned it. I used a fab travel agent named Bob Hill. His company is Mouse Tales Travel and if you are considering going I would HIGHLY recommend him. He did everything for us. Made reservations for the hotel, for character dinners, for regular sit down dinners everything. I just told him what I wanted. He also gave me advice on which resort suited my family’s needs and I will tell you it was PERFECT! In EVERY way! We had the BEST time, ate the BEST food and made memories that will last a lifetime. My kids were over the top excited on this trip. It was amazing. So click over to Bob’s site and take a look around. And the best part. Disney pays Bob… not me. Anyway, I thought I would share a few shots from our trip and then hopefully back to regular blogging. Oh and BTW- These were all taken with my point and shoot. No professional shots here just memories recorded! I played mom all week and not photographer!

I met this sweet family over 9 years ago when our oldest were about 3 weeks old or so. We developed a friendship and started a playgroup with some other moms and spent every week of that first year together. We played, we cried, we laughed, we complained and we shared in each others joy of being new mothers. It was a magical time that I will always look back on with fond memories. Over the years our families have grown, gotten busy and we don’t see each other that much. So when mom called me to do this session I was so happy to get to see everyone and catch up. The kids were so fun and so goofy… they kept me laughing the whole time. And of course just like mom and dad they are all gorgeous! And the reason I called this post 3 of kind? All three have amazing blond hair and gorgeous blue eyes! They are perfectly stunning children! Enjoy!

Love taking pictures of your kids but aren’t a professional photographer?

Got a nice camera but don’t know how to use it?

Get fuzzy shots and you aren’t sure why?

Want to learn which lens you should buy?

Want to get off P mode when you are taking pictures of your kids?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then this blog post is for you…

Last Spring I offered my first Fuzzy to Focused classes and they were a huge hit. All the moms who attended and I had a great time getting to know their cameras. Since I had such a great response and ended up with a waiting list to boot I thought that I would offer them again this Fall. So if you are tired of being on P mode on your camera, want to learn more about how to work your camera, or just want better shots of your kids this is a great class for you.

What the class will include

basic knowledge of your Digital SLR camera (so you must own one)

general overview of aperture, shutter speeds, and ISO and a bit on the histogram

tips on photographing your child

some real time shooting outside to get the feel of your camera

overview of file management and storage of your personal images

homework assignments

a work book for you to take home

What the class will not include

editing (this could possibly be a whole other class)

how to start a photography business (I do offer Professional Photography Mentoring but you must live outside of Georgia)

What you will need for the class

a Digital SLR camera and lens ( I currently shoot Canon but have used Nikon as well- These are the two brands I recommend)

your owner’s manual

an editing software program of some sort to use at home for homework (Photoshop Elements is a great one)

a fully charged battery

pen and paper to take notes

The class will be 4 hours in length and will be held at my studio in Roswell. Water and snacks/ lunch will be served.
The cost is $200 and the class is limited to 8. I want this to be personal and I want you to be involved. If I have enough interested I will certainly schedule another class.

Here are some dates I am considering… but these are flexible so if you would like another date let me know.

September 29th 10 am – 2 pm
October 2nd, 1pm-5pm

Please contact me through my contact page or by email at agrphotography@gmail.com if you are interested and I will put you on the list.

Please note that this class is intended for moms (or dads) who want to learn more about their camera and how to take better images of their children. If you have any interest in becoming a professional photographer this is not the class for you.
